The Product
Introducing the Hazmat Auxiliary Unit (Canary) – A revolutionary solution for safer and more efficient hazardous material monitoring.
The Canary is a cutting-edge device that integrates your existing handheld hazmat sensors with commercial drone platforms. By carrying these sensors into hazardous environments via drone, the Canary eliminates the need for first responders to risk entering contaminated areas.
Key Features:
- Drone Agnostic Design: Works seamlessly with a wide range of commercial drone models, integrating with platforms you already own and operate.
- Hazmat Sensor Integration: Accommodates the handheld radiation, chemical, and multi-gas detectors used by hazmat teams nationwide, leveraging equipment and training you already have.
- Real-Time Data Transmission: Wirelessly transmits critical sensor readings in real-time via an onboard long-range radio, bypassing reliance on local wifi/cellular networks.
- Remote Operation: Enables remote hazmat monitoring from a safe distance, protecting first responder lives.
- Rapid Deployment: Can be quickly deployed for faster response compared to manually carrying sensors into hot zones.
With its affordable cost and unmatched versatility, the Canary sets a new standard for environmental monitoring safety. Detect hazards without exposing your team to undue risks. The Canary keeps first responders out of harm’s way while providing the actionable data needed to make informed decisions.

By leveraging our agnostic platform, we strive to set a new standard for environmental monitoring, ensuring the protection of both people and the planet.
Technology
The core of the Canary system is a specialized enclosure that can be mounted onto a wide variety of commercial drone platforms. This enclosure has been designed to securely integrate and carry one or more existing handheld hazmat sensors that first responder teams already own and use.
Some examples of hazmat sensors that can be housed in the Canary include:
- Radiation detectors
- Multi-gas monitors (for toxins, oxygen levels, etc.)
- Chemical warfare agent detectors
Once the appropriate hazmat sensors are loaded into the Canary, the drone can be deployed to a hazardous area like a chemical spill, radiation leak, or other contaminated zone. This allows the sensors to enter and monitor the hot zone without putting any first responder personnel at risk of exposure.
The Canary contains an onboard long-range radio that continuously transmits the real-time sensor readings from the loaded hazmat detectors. This data transmission does not rely on cellular networks or wifi, which could be unavailable in the incident area.
On the receiving end, first responders outside the contaminated zone can monitor the incoming sensor data stream from the Canary on ruggedized handheld devices or laptop software. This provides them situational awareness about the type and concentration of hazards present.
By keeping human personnel safely away while using drones to carry their existing hazmat sensors forward, the Canary system allows for safer and more efficient monitoring of hazardous environments. It leverages proven sensor technologies first responders already use in an innovative drone-integrated solution.
Use Cases
Emergency Response to Hazardous Material Incidents
During hazardous material (HAZMAT) incidents, first responders often face significant risks when entering dangerous environments to collect data using handheld sensors. The Canary can be deployed with drones to swiftly carry hazmat sensors into these hazardous areas.
Use Case: In the event of a chemical spill or radiological release, emergency response teams can deploy drones equipped with the Canary to gather real-time data on the extent and severity of the hazard without putting human responders at risk. The Canary-equipped drones can transmit sensor readings and location information back to the response team, enabling them to make informed decisions and coordinate an effective response from a safe distance.
Environmental Monitoring in Industrial Settings:
Industries handling hazardous materials, such as chemical plants or nuclear facilities, require continuous monitoring to ensure safety and compliance with regulations. Traditional methods of manual monitoring can be time-consuming and pose risks to workers.
Use Case: The Canary can be employed in industrial settings to conduct routine monitoring and surveillance of hazardous areas using drones. By attaching commercial off-the-shelf sensors to drones equipped with the Canary, companies can remotely collect data on air quality, radiation levels, or gas leaks in real-time. This proactive approach enhances workplace safety by minimizing human exposure to hazardous environments and allows for early detection of potential risks, enabling timely intervention and mitigation measures.
These use cases demonstrate how the Canary can revolutionize hazmat response strategies and enhance safety for both responders and the public by leveraging drone technology and existing hazmat sensors.
